LOCAL LAWS

Life Vests
While it's a good idea for everyone to wear a life vest while kayaking it's the law for anyone under the age of 12.

Permits and Fees
While it's true there is no requirement to register your un-powered kayak or canoe it's a good idea to get a launch permit. This will allow you to use your kayak at Commission lakes, launch access areas, PA state parks, or PA state forests. Currently $18 for 2 years or $10 for 1 year.

Purchase Launch Permit
You can purchase your launch permit online here. There are also other options for kayakers to use the above mentioned waters by registering your kayak. You can find that information here.

Alcohol
Alcohol is prohibited on both land and water at all PA State Parks, and on PFBC property. In addition, it is illegal to operate any watercraft (including canoes & kayaks, motorized or non-powered) while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.
